Port Macquarie parents, read on!

One of the most difficult aspects of being a parent is getting that much-needed moment of shut-eye. If your bub is a bit of a restless sleeper, don’t worry—there is sleep at the end of the tunnel! We’ve found some helpful tips to get your bub off to slumberland, so you can have a peaceful nights’ rest. From newborns to toddlers and school-aged children, bedtime can be a battle. If you’re tired of having your eyes hanging out of your head, and finding your keys in the fridge, fret not—here’s how you can make bedtime a little bit easier for you and your children.

The key to getting kids to sleep is perseverance. Unfortunately, the more tired you are, the more difficult it is to remain patient and consistent. This is why we’ve found a few helpful tips to get your child off to sleep, so you can relax and rejuvenate from your busy day. If you are looking for a reputable child care centre in Port Macquarie, we’ve listed a few of these too!

Tip 1. Turn off the TV 2 hours prior to bedtime.

It may seem counter-intuitive to turn off something that has your child so absorbed and quiet, but letting them watch TV leading up to bed can actually interfere with their sleep pattern. Research has shown that the light emitted by the TV can cause problems with the production of a hormone, melatonin, that plays an important part in your child’s sleep/wake cycles. By turning off the TV a few hours before bed, you’re allowing them to produce the right amount of this hormone to make them sleepy!

Tip 2. Stick to a specific bedtime.

Routine is everything when it comes to kidlets, especially for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Establish a routine before bed that helps ease your child into sleep. Small routines, such as a bath and reading a bedtime story, help children prepare for what comes next: bedtime!

Tip 3. Set your child’s room up for sleep time.

The smallest things can make the biggest difference. Simply by drawing block-out curtains, giving your child a soft toy to sleep with and ensuring it’s relatively quiet are the perfect ingredients to a sleepy bubba. This all helps your child differentiate day from night, allowing them to fall asleep with ease.
