So the sun is out and it’s warming the air—it’s hard to believe winter is here! Put on those hiking boots and ignite your sense of adventure.

Want a day away from central Rockhampton? Get hiking!

Mount Etna Caves National Park

If you’re after some fun and adventure away from the busy city centre, drive 30 minutes up to the Mount Etna Caves National Park. With beautiful limestone outcrops and dry rainforest patches, this is a fantastic option for getting out among nature. Head to the Cammoo picnic area and admire the stunning scenery, or take to exploring one of the many mountain tracks available. Even better – The Bat Cleft Track is reopening this weekend after having the boardwalk done up, so you will have even more areas to venture into!

Want to go somewhere a little closer to the city? Get the kids in the car and head out.

Mount Archer National Park

If you’re looking for a fantastic place to take the kids, try Mount Archer National Park. Just 15-minutes’ drive from the CBD, this park offers amazing views of the city, as well as beautiful dry rainforests. Keep an eye out for feasting glossy black cockatoos—these beautiful and rare birds love to hang out here! Head out onto the Zamia Walk, a walking track through the park. There are also some great lookouts to take breathtaking photos of the city and forest.
