Fireworks, live music and plenty of food!

Happy Territory Day! July 1st marks the annual celebration of the Northern Territory becoming self-governing in 1978. The celebration is marked with events across the region, from small backyard barbecues right up to the main event, the concert and fireworks at Mindil Beach. If you're an NT local, or you're travelling through the area, we've found events in all major towns, as well as some great places to grab a bite to eat and celebrate afterwards! From Darwin, through to Katherine and Alice Springs, there are plenty of amazing venues to celebrate Territory Day this July 1st. Read on below!

Darwin

If you’re in Darwin for July 1st, you’ll be lucky enough to enjoy a concert on the foreshore at Mindil Beach. Starting at 5pm, this is a free event featuring headliner Jessica Mauboy as well as other local talent. Head down and check out the Mindil Beach markets before the main event for a bite to eat! There will also be fireworks at 8pm, so make sure you stick around for the incredible display!

If you’re looking for a unique way to enjoy the Mindil Beach fireworks this Territory Day, why not check out Skycity Darwin? They’re hosting their very own gourmet barbecue event, with an incredible view of the concert and fireworks. With their all-you-can-eat menu including wild caught barramundi with mango chutney, pepper crusted beef and a huge range of hot, cold and dessert options, this will be a first-class way to enjoy the day! There will be a cash bar available so you can enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine with dinner, before retreating to one of the fantastic bars that Skycity Darwin has to offer after the event. Make sure you book your tickets quickly if you don’t want to miss out!

Alice Springs

Alice Springs is celebrating this massive day with a street party and free barbecue event at the Todd Mall. Head down from 5pm to enjoy performances from local talent including musicians and dancers, as well as the unveiling of new historical displays around the town! Fireworks kick off at 7pm at the ANZAC oval to celebrate the day.

Katherine

Katherine is hosting its very own dance party in honour of this year’s Territory Day. Located at the Katherine Showgrounds, this event is set to go off with a huge fireworks display, as well as food stalls flocking to the area. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this fantastic local event!

This Territory Day, Mahogany Bar and Grill will be celebrating in their usual style with fireworks for sale and plenty of delicious beverages. Want somewhere to go with your friends and have a great time? Head to the Mahogany Bar and Grill for a crisp beer, or order yourself a fishbowl.
