Join the force for the Supanova Cosplay Parade

Gather around geeks! It's that time of year again. A time of year where dressing up as a Stormtrooper is socially acceptable; a time of year where you greet others with a Vulcan Salute instead of a wave; a time of year where normal is weird and you get to indulge in all your pop culture fantasies at Supanova. While the Gold Coast Supanova Pop Culture Expo officially started on Friday, join the hundreds of other dressed up fanboys and fangirls in the cosplay parade march down Broadbeach today. Led by the 501st Legion and Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future, you can show off that costume you worked so hard on before a day of fun at the expo.

After meeting some of your favourite sci-fi, anime and comic book characters at the Gold Coast Convention Centre throughout the day, you’re going to be looking for somewhere to satisfy your stomach. Since you’re already in Broadbeach, don’t bother getting changed, gather your cosplay companions and turn some heads at one of these four restaurants in Broadbeach.

You already walked past the Alto Cucina and Bar during the Cosplay parade, so why not revisit this beautiful venue for a few drinks and a bite to eat. The friendly staff at this thriving restaurant will welcome any Wookie or Marvel character with open arms. So take a seat with the gang, order from their menu of delectable mains and talk about how you shook hands with Dolph Lundgren or got a selfie with James Cosmo. If you’re thinking about finishing your weekend off with a bang, then Alto Cucina and Bar is also a great place to enjoy a few cheap drinks before heading for a night out in Broadbeach.

Situated a short walk across from the Gold Coast Convention Centre, it would be rude not to stop at this restaurant for a few post-Supanova stomach fillers. Onyx Restaurant offers sleek yet stylish surroundings for you to indulge in a range of modern Australian cuisines. Share some tapas with fellow pop culture enthusiasts, otherwise choose from the ‘something bigger’ menu if you’re looking to fill out that costume. Make sure you wash everything down with a delicious cocktail; a common favourite is the feisty red head with chambord berry liquor, apple vodka, pomegranate juice and a splash of lime juice.

You don’t have to be as wise as Yoda to realise that 1two3 Lounge Bar is the perfect place to bring your friends after day of fun at Supanova. This innovative restaurant lets you decide which way you approach the menu. Order several dishes at once and enjoy a little smorgasbord on your table, or just keep the entrees coming all night, there are no rules at 1two3 Mediterranean. Regardless of how you decide to eat here, make sure the oysters kilpatrick come out at some stage because they are simply divine. This restaurant is also on the Broadbeach main strip so you have easy access to public transport if want to have a couple of drinks, however this may not be the best option if you’re dressed as Slave Lei.

Planning on indulging in some fast food from the low-grade vendors inside the Supanova Expo? Think again! Only one taste from the delicious menu at Sage Cafe and Restaurant and you’ll be hooked. This family-friendly venue is home to staff who will cater to your every need and make sure your dining experience is one to remember. If you’re in the mood for an Italian pizza then the King Neptune option will have your mouth watering with tiger prawns, calamari, salsa verda, confit garlic and crispy capers. Unsure whether you want to keep drinking or just go straight to dessert? Step into the dark side and order a Nutella martini that will both tantalise your tastebuds and prepare you for the night ahead.
