Road trip around the Tweed Coast

If you don’t know much about the Tweed Coast, you’re in for a treat. From the quirky towns, local cafes, rainforest retreats and cozy beachside restaurants, the Tweed Coast has so much to offer and is home to some of the most picturesque views while driving around. Head on a road trip and check out the best of the Tweed with these activities, accommodation, and delicious food to keep you entertained. A whole weekend’s worth of activities is planned below for you to check out and enjoy, so if you’re tossing up what to do for your next well-deserved mini holiday, this is sure to sell you on the Tweed Coast.

Murwillumbah

For your first destination, follow the Tweed River inland to Murwillumbah. This small town on the outskirts of Mount Warning is a hidden gem with a lot to offer, with its natural beauty and friendly locals. Murwillumbah has a number of art galleries and museums to look at, as well as locally owned specialty shops to wander through. Once you’ve done exploring this small town, check into your accommodation and relax at a day spa nearby.

For lunch, why not pop into the Moo Moo Roadhouse for a bite to eat. Stop in for some fuel for your car, check out the hot rods and then grab a coffee and some food. Their quirky store is known for it’s vintage and antique items, but they also serve up a mean burger with a side of chips to keep you fuelled as you enjoy the rolling hills of the Tweed Coast. If you’re after something to share, you can build your own pizza from the sauce base to every one of the toppings. Don’t pass by Mooball without stopping into the Moo Moo Roadhouse; the locals are sure to point you in the right direction if you’re looking to spend any longer in the town.

Brunswick Heads

Now that you’ve experienced a lot of the inland beauty on the Tweed Coast, end your weekend at Brunswick Heads. This small town boasts crystal blue waters and a laid-back vibe for your weekend trip away. Make this your last stop and take a dip in the water before grabbing a bite to eat on your way home.

A standout local restaurant in Brunswick Heads is the Park Street Homemade Pasta Bar. All pasta is made onsite, and it’s the perfect place to head for a sunset dinner with share plates and rustic meals on offer. Order the spiced beet dip with goats cheese, roasted hazelnuts and home made crostini to start with, and then move onto the chef’s selection mains. One incredible dish is the farm house pappardelle; slow roasted wild rabbit ragu with black olives and thyme. This restaurant is sure to end your incredible road trip on a high note, and if you’re the passenger in the car make sure to choose a smooth red or white to match your meal.
