Give yourself that spa treatment for half the price

Is work stressing you out? Have your work commitments run you down? Whether you don't have the time to book in a salon treatment or are strapped for cash, don't worry! We've done our research and found some easy, cheap all-natural remedies for you to try at home. Read on for some handy face masks, dark circle eliminators and exfoliants that won't cost you an arm and a leg—you probably have all of this stuff in your cupboards already!

Remove your makeup

Extra virgin olive oil

Olive oil is good for you inside and out. Although you may feel weird about covering your skin in it, olive oil is non-comedogenic and won’t clog your pores. If you ever struggle to take off heavy eye makeup after a glamorous evening, dab a small amount of extra virgin olive oil onto a cotton ball and wipe away—your makeup removal routine will be cut in half!

Cleanse

Honey and cinnamon face wash

Known as an ancient remedy for infected wounds, raw honey has been used for centuries for its bacteria-fighting and moisturising abilities. Mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder with 3 tablespoons of raw honey for a cheap, acne-fighting miracle. Spread the mixture on clean, dry skin and leave for up to an hour. Wash off the mask with warm water and feel the difference!

Exfoliate

Sugar

Just like oil, sugar is surprisingly good when used on your skin too! Being a natural source of glycolic acid, sugar encourages cell turnover and is highly effective in treating sun-damaged and ageing skin. Try combining half a cup of white or brown sugar with a quarter cup of olive or coconut oil. Store the whole mixture in an air-tight container as you’ll only need to use a tablespoon at a time. For a less abrasive scrub, opt for brown sugar over white.

Brighten your eyes

Green tea bags

For those of you who suffer from dark circles around the eyes, it’s time for you to say goodbye to them! After you’ve made yourself and your friends a hot brew, keep the teabags and let it cool for a few minutes. Place one bag over each eyelid, lie back and relax for about 10-15 minutes. The caffeine and tannin in green tea can reduce swelling, as well as tighten the skin round the eyes, by shrinking the blood vessels.
