Day out with mates on the Sunny Coast

June 26, 2015 - 2 min read

Looking for a great dya out with your mates on the Sunshine Coast? here’s the ultimate guide from morning to night to enjoy with friends. Don’t miss out!

Start your day the fun way

Surf at Mooloolaba Beach

Depending on the swell and whether you don’t mind surfing in the winter weather, get your friends together and head to Mooloolaba Beach. Park at the end of Paralyn Parade and walk to the beach from there. Suitable for surfers of all levels, the swell normally ranges between 3 and 5 foot. Just remember to watch out for your mates and not to drop in on each other.

Golf at Maroochy River Golf Club

If you prefer golf over surfing, make your way to Maroochy River Golf Club for a bit of light-hearted competitive fun. Formerly the Horton Park Golf Club, this beautiful 18-hole golf course poses as a challenge for beginners and is still good fun for those with a low handicap. With a number of bunkers and other hazards, don’t be afraid to throw a few sledges after your cocky mate loses another ball in the water.
After you’ve finished your round, don’t leave without having lunch at the new bistro and bar which serves a versatile menu full of fresh and local produce. You can choose to eat inside or dine alfresco and immerse yourself in expansive views of the course – just make sure the loser shouts!

Spend your afternoon with a rod in the water

Fish @ Maroochy River

After your morning surf or game of golf, you’re sure to be pretty buggered. Pack your most comfortable camping chair and head down to the Maroochy River for a spot of fishing. This saltwater fishing oasis is a great place to catch some flathead, sand whiting (in the shallow areas), mangrove Jack and cod (in the deeper holes). Haven’t managed to catch any fish? At least you’ve spent the afternoon next to your mates having a laugh and sharing old stories!

Catch up over a few beers

Palmwoods Hotel

The last stop on your mates day out involves a few drinks and some quality pub grub! Located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, the Palmwoods Hotel is popular among locals for their great tasting steaks, quality entertainment and friendly atmosphere. After you’ve tucked into a legendary 450-gram T-bone steak with chips and salad, head straight to the bar area. You can spend the night competing in some pool or watching your favourite team play on one of the screens. If you and your friends get a bit carried away with the ice-cold tap beer, there’s even a courtesy bus available for those living within a 10-kilometre radius. What better way to end the day than at this bloke’s paradise?
