Alright FIFO workers, get ready to start your engines. Hidden Valley Tavern is an absolute riot and an obvious choice if you’re on the hunt for a place to lubricate with your thirsty friends. The public bar has a motor sports theme with a replica V8 supercar protruding from the ceiling. The walls are adorned with motor sports memorabilia, they have a gaming lounge, an enclosed beer garden, veranda and pool tables if you consider yourself quite the pool shark. The Santa Fe restaurant located within Hidden Valley Tavern serves meals until 9pm on weekdays, and don’t worry about putting on your tails or winged eyeliner lads because thongs, singlets and stubbies are permitted here. This baby boasts a number of quality clubs and promotions including the ‘Punters Club’, ‘Footy Tipping Club’ and the most important of them all, the ‘Beer Appreciation Club’. Every Monday to Thursday they have ‘Happy Hour’ which for after work drink enthusiasts, is a pretty self explanatory term. There is even an adjoining cellar and bottle shop so you can pick up your favourite bottle of bubbles on your way home if you win big in the gaming lounge. Or maybe you snookered your boss and need a celebratory bottle of Jack.

Steak and beer, Palmerston Tavern – Darwin

If you’re looking for a great spot that will welcome your hi-vis with open arms, Palmerston Tavern is your beacon of hope in Darwin. They’re not going to kick you to the curb like hungry, little Oliver Twist, they will bring you in, pour you a glass of their best beer and provide you with a meal you would be happy to serve up to your own mother. Lounge back on the open deck or on a stool in the TAB. The Palm Bar is now a public facility and boasts a true sense of Darwin community. The staff here are super friendly and the decor has recently been refurbished but is still full of character. If you have a little tacker or an annoying colleague, drop them in the ‘Kids Zone’ with kids movies on loop and a brand spanking new playground. This place is bound to keep them out of your hair while you unwind with an afternoon beverage in this awesome location.
