Face washing 101: looking after your skin

August 5, 2015 - 2 min read

Does your face feel grimy? Your pores and blackheads won’t go away? We have put together a face washing 101 to make sure you’re covering all the steps to perfect skin!

Take your time

When you’re washing your face, the old-fashioned wash-and-go technique just doesn’t cut it. If you’ve been wearing makeup or sunscreen during the day, be sure to remove it all first using an oil-based cream or emollient wipe. Then wash with lukewarm water, before adding a dime-sized amount of cleanser. Rinse again and dry with a soft paper towel.

Wash to suit your skin

The most common myth regarding face washing is that you should wash your face twice a day. While this is the case for people with naturally oily skin, over-washing can lead to skin irritation and dryness. If you’ve got naturally dry skin then try to cleanse only once daily. However, always wash your skin after exercise to avoid breakouts.

Purchasing products

Again, everybody’s skin is different. Try experimenting with cleansing products until you find something that has the best results for you! However, avoid any products containing fragrance or harsh soaps, as they can be irritating to the skin.

Avoid toners

Using toners can clear away your skin’s natural oils, drying it out. More gentle toners have been known to balance PH levels and relax your skin, but the right cleanser should do this anyway. If you just can’t resist, try to use a softer, alcohol-free toner.

Don’t waste your money

Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a product that you’re just going to wash down the drain. Look at purchasing leave-on skin care products, that are concentrated and stay on the skin for a while, as these are most effective.
